This was recorded live from a Eurorack modular system which was processing a Moog Subharmonicon and adding sequenced percussion produced with resonant filters and analog FM.
Looping is done with a 4mS Dual Looping Delay (DLD) designed by Gary Hall. The two loops panned left and right are in a polyrhythmic relationship and are each subject to a quantised replacement of their audio in rhythms which themselves have polyrhythmic relations to each loop length. Hence, while feedback is always 100% the loops evolve gradually as they have chunks replaced with new audio.
The DLD has exceptional capabilities in it's ability to stay in sync with an incoming pulse, in this case being generated by a trigger sequencer which also controls the replace function and the background rhythms.
The loops run throughout the piece with melody, drone and eventually the rhythm all being processed. At the end we just hear the loops decay as they are fed only with silence.
Musically the piece has some reference to Swedish keyboard wizard Bo Hanssen.

In 1981 I was with my father in a Tangerine Dream concert in the Stadthalle Bremen. This piece of music brought both memories of this event and a very fresh note on top. Wonderful music beyond time and technology. erik maronde
